ACLU Case Number: 2000-20
Description: Relying on the First Amendment guarantee of the right to freely exercise their religious beliefs, Jewish prisoners persuaded the federal district court to order the Colorado Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide them with a diet of kosher food. When the DOC appealed, the ACLU weighed in with an amicus brief in support of the prisoners. The Tenth Circuit handed down a favorable decision on April 11, 2002.
