School District Agrees to Clear Student's Record

Officials at a Poudre School District elementary school agreed to expunge a 6th grade student's disciplinary file after she was suspended from school for the creation of a website that insulted some of her classmates.  The website was not created or accessed during school hours, had no connection to any school activity, and did not cause any in-school disruption. ACLU Staff Attorney, Taylor Pendergrass, wrote a letter arguing that the school had no right to punish a student for protected speech made entirely  off-campus.
