Other winners have spent time working for immigrant rights and racial justice, spreading the message of tolerance through the creation of lesbian and gay rights organizations, advocating for teen health and reproductive rights, and joining in the fight to end the death penalty.
Each candidate must write a personal essay describing his or her reason for becoming a civil liberties/civil rights activist.
