1st Place Winner -- Rebecca Clark
Photo Essay: "Who watches the land of the free?"
Rebecca Clark is a freshman at the George Washington High School International Baccalaureate program and a member of the school's new ACLU Chapter. The Arts Students' League of Denver is a frequent haunt. Aside from photography, painting and ceramics are areas of interest that keep her busy. The always, but now especially, relevant and timely focus of this competition was what drew Rebecca to participate and what makes this recognition all the more meaningful in light of the conflict surrounding the regulation and constriction of Constitutional Rights today.
2nd Place Winner -- Christie Williams
Essay: "The Pledge of Allegiance--Beneficial Aphorism or Infringement on First Amendment Rights?"
Christie Williams is a Junior attending Heritage High School. The Moral Dilemmas of War Club at Heritage High School sponsored her essay. She enjoys writing, art, and computer programming. She is interested in becoming a computer programmer or a graphic artist upon graduation from college.
3rd Place Winner -- Evan Ratzen
Essay: "A Justification of Civil Disobedience"
Evan Michael Ratzan is 16 years old and has grown up in Breckenridge, Colo. The Captain of the Summit High School Speech and Debate team, he placed 1st and 4th in this years Colorado State finals in speech and debate. He is currently the Treasurer for the Summit County Youth ACLU and involved with local youth politics as well as a volunteer for the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Centers winter program and a member of the Summit Spanish Honor Society of the Summit.
