Letters to Teachers
August 2005
Dear High School Chapter, Club Sponsor or Teacher,
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. We know that you have a lot to do and that your time is limited.
The purpose of the Rights Project for Teens: To give high school students an opportunity to express their personal views on civil liberties, the Bill of Rights or a specific right guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Students are invited to express themselves in any print-journalistic format: editorial, investigative reporting, photo essay, political cartoon or strip, etc. Entries will be judged in terms of clarity, impassioned voice, and originality.
We are asking you to help facilitate the process by presenting the contest, encouraging and directing participation, reminding them of deadlines and finally screening the entries and selecting the three best to send on to the ACLU of Colorado by October 28, 2005 at the latest. If any school or chapter submits more than three entries, we regret that ALL entries will be disqualified.
Tips:
- An ACLU mentor is available to assist you during the project.
- All entries enter same pool for judging; there are no categories.
- Community leaders will judge entries.
- $100 Cash award per school: chapter, club or sponsoring teacher for one to three entries. (Again, submissions of more than three entries will disqualify the entire group from consideration and award.)
- Award Presentation for the winners and each participating teacher at the ACLU annual meeting in February of 2006.
- Copy of Bill Rights and related materials provided upon request.
We appreciate and thank you for your time.
