Cheltenham Elementary Program
Hogan & Hartson attorneys and ACLU volunteers returned to Cheltenham Elementary on November 8th to work with students on the importance of voting. Still feeling the election buzz, volunteers and students talked about the election and voting rights. After a fun and informative discussion, each group wrote a poem or rap.
Here’s an example of the creative energy from the classrooms:
“I tried to vote this November, but my birthday is not till December.
The 26th Amendment says I must be 18, so I can’t go to the voting machine.
Liberty stands for freedom, that’s why I’m going to vote.
Meanwhile we understand the importance to exercise your right, and to get in a fight.”
In 2007, we will be heading back to Cheltenham January 16-18, April 13, 20 & 27 and May 21 and need volunteers. Contact Rachel Chaparro at rchaparro@aclu-co.org if you can join us!
