Cheltenham Elementary Program

__________________________________________________________________________________

Hogan & Hartson attorneys and ACLU volunteers volunteer at Cheltenham Elementary to work with cheltenhamstudents on all sorts of civil rights related curricular, from the importance of voting to the three branches of government.

In Novemeber, still feeling the election buzz, volunteers and students talked about the election and voting rights. After a fun and informative discussion, each group wrote a poem or rap.
Here’s an example of the creative energy from the classrooms:

I tried to vote this November, but my birthday is not till December.
The 26th Amendment says I must be 18, so I can’t go to the voting machine.
Liberty stands for freedom, that’s why I’m going to vote.
Meanwhile we understand the importance to exercise your right, and to get in a fight.”

We just finished our 2009 curricula in April. However, contact Alison May at amay@aclu-co.org if you would like to join us next year!
