| Youth Education Program (YEP) |
 |
The mission of the Youth Education Program is to establish ACLU clubs in Colorado so that students can know and understand their civil liberties. The volunteers on the education committee of the Colorado ACLU oversee the Youth Education Program and assist with programs and activities at each club.
YEP works exclusively with high school-aged students, and we currently have active high school clubs in Denver, Aurora, Summit County, Ft. Collins, and Niwot.
Over the past several years, YEP has met with overwhelming interest and success by the students. The law students work with high school students in our mentoring program, which has grown significantly due to the success of the program. This program has sparked new interest in the ACLU, both locally and nationally, among the families and extended networks of the participating high school students.
YEP offers opportunities to high school students to write, take photos, create cartoon panels, enter national contests, local contests, and win cash for themselves and their ACLU clubs! See the Teen Rights Project and Civil Rights in Action for information on those award programs.
YEP meets monthly. Click here for the 2005-2006 meeting schedule. The students eat pizza, network, help each other, plan events and talk about anything they feel is important and pertinent to their school club needs. Youth Education Program meetings are fun and productive.
