The ACLU of Colorado is involved in many community events, whether it is through the education of its members in effective ways to fundraise, or through direct sponsorship and participation in certain events. The two main events each year are the Annual Member Meeting, which usually occurs during the first quarter of the year, and the New Member Orientation in April that is meant to welcome new members into the organization.
Fundraising Events
The two biggest fundraising events for the ACLU of Colorado Foundation have traditionally been the 4th of July Liberty Run, Walk & Festival of Rights and the Carle Whitehead Memorial Awards Dinner and Silent Auction in the fall.
We're taking a break from the Liberty Run this year, to concentrate our resources on other fundraising and outreach efforts. Check our calendar for events near you!
The Carle Whitehead Memorial Awards Dinner and Silent Auction is an annual event and fundraiser for the Colorado ACLU Foundation. The Carle Whitehead award is given to a person or persons who have dedicated a lifetime of work to the protection of our civil rights and liberties in Colorado. This dinner is the biggest fundraiser for the ACLU Foundation of Colorado, providing the means to fund litigation, educate the public and to further its mission of protecting and extending the civil rights and liberties of all people in Colorado.
Other Events
Other events that the ACLU of Colorado participates in include Pro-Choice Lobby day, held every January, the CHUN (Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods) People’s Fair, Cinco de Mayo, and, in June and July, chapters of the Colorado ACLU support PrideFests in both Denver and Colorado Springs—demonstrating the importance of equal rights for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. In 2004, the ACLU of Colorado was also very active in protecting the votes of all citizens, as well as getting out the message to vote via groups such as Colorado Voting Project, Colorado Women Vote, and the Gill Foundation/Democracy Project.
