Ballot Measures
In November 2006, Colorado voters faced the second longest ballot in our state’s history. The ACLU of Colorado took positions on four statewide measures that impacted civil rights.
SUPPORT:
Amendment 42 – Increasing Colorado’s Minimum Wage – Measure passed.
Referendum I – Extended basic legal rights to LGBT couples – Measure failed.
OPPOSE:
Amendment 40 – Term-limits for Judges – Measure failed.
Amendment 43 – Gay Marriage Ban – Measure passed.
We also took a position to OPPOSE the Denver City & County Issue 1A – A tax increase that would increase access to preschool. The ACLU and the Anti-Defamation League opposed this measure because of the likelihood of these government collected tax dollars being used for religious education.
