Nov 15, 2000 - ACLU Announces Settlement of Civil Rights Suit Against Denver Police Department
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) announced today that the City and County of Denver has agreed to settle a civil rights lawsuit brought against the police department as a result of a massive police response to a report of a fight at a student dance held at Thomas Jefferson High School (TJ) on May 4, 1996.

Aug 31, 2000 - ACLU Foundation of Colorado Receives Challenge Grant from the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado.
American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Colorado (ACLU of Colorado) recently received a challenge grant and event sponsorship in the amount of $13,000 from the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. The grant will support on-going legal work and ACLU chapter initiatives in El Paso County.
Aug 17, 2000 - Colorado Court Strikes Parental Notification for Abortion Act
Recognizing the critical need of young women facing a medical crisis to have immediate access to abortion, a U.S. District Court in Colorado today held unconstitutional a law that would have prevented pregnant teens from getting an abortion unless they notified a parent. The judge struck the law because it lacked an exception for situations in which an abortion is necessary to protect the teen's health.
Jul 13, 2000 - ACLU Sues Denver Police Department for Disclosure of Internal Affairs Investigation
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed suit today under the Colorado Open Records Act, seeking disclosure of the Denver Police Department's internal affairs investigation of the controversial arrest three years ago of Robert Murphy, who died shortly after being taken into police custody on October 31, 1997.
Jul 6, 2000 - ACLU Declares Victory in Challenge to Colorado "Anti-profanity" Regulation
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) declared victory today in a free speech case when it announced that the State of Colorado has agreed to stop enforcing a regulation that forbids owners of bars and restaurants from "permitting profanity" on their premises.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed suit today against Weld County Sheriff Ed Jordan for refusing to permit a former inmate to see the medical records that document the medical care he received when he was housed in the Weld County Jail.
Mar 22, 2000 - ACLU Challenges Censorship of Publications in Colorado Prisons
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed suit today in federal court to challenge the censorship of books, newspapers, magazines, and political commentary in the Colorado Department of Corrections (DOC). The plaintiffs include the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies; eight publishers of periodicals that have been censored, including Denver's weekly alternative newspaper, Westword; and inmates at various Colorado prisons.
Mar 21, 2000 - ACLU Sues Pueblo County Sheriff for Disclosure of Restraint Policy and Videotape
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed suit today against Pueblo County Sheriff Dan Corsentino, arguing that the Colorado Open Records Act requires him to disclose his jail's policy on the use of restraints, including the use of controversial devices such as the restraint board and the restraint chair. The lawsuit also seeks disclosure of a videotape made when Pueblo County Sheriff's deputies strapped inmate Kenneth Bishop into the jail's restraint chair on December 18, 1998. Bishop died in custody shortly afterwards.
Mar 16, 2000 - ACLU Lawsuit Challenges Random Urine Tests at Greyhound Racetracks
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed suit today to challenge a Colorado rule that requires all state-licensed participants in the greyhound racing industry to submit urine samples that will be tested for drugs. State officials demand the samples on a random basis, without any suspicion that the individuals to be tested have been using drugs.
Mar 1, 2000 - ACLU Announces Settlement of Strip-search Lawsuit
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) announced today a settlement agreement that resolves a civil rights lawsuit filed on behalf of Job Corps participants who alleged that they were subjected to a group strip search at the federal agency's facility in Collbran, Colorado, a residential educational and vocational training program for disadvantaged youth.
