Apr 2, 2002 - ACLU of Colorado Files Class Action Lawsuit Challenging El Paso County Jail's Treatment of Mentally Ill Prisoners
The El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs has failed to protect and provide adequate resources for prisoners with serious mental health needs, the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Colorado (ACLU) alleged today in a federal class action lawsuit.

Nov 5, 2000 - Series of Inmate Deaths in El Paso County Jail Prompt ACLU Call for Investigation
In a letter to the El Paso Board of County Commissioners, the ACLU called today for an investigation to determine whether "systemic and ongoing deficiencies in the delivery of medical and mental health care" are responsible for a series of inmate deaths in the county jail in Colorado Springs.

May 10, 2001 - ACLU Sues El Paso County Jail over Death of Inmate
The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Colorado (ACLU) announced today the filing of a wrongful death and civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the family of Andrew Spillane, a pre-trial detainee who died on May 10, 2000, in the El Paso County Jail, shortly after deputies pepper-sprayed him in the confined space of a special detention cell. 

Sep 2, 1998 - Amnesty International Criticizes El Paso County Sheriff’s use of Restraint Board
The El Paso County Sheriff’s use of the restraint board and his proposed use of a restraint chair may violate international standards for the humane treatment of prisoners, according to a letter mailed to Sheriff John Anderson last week by Amnesty International, the London-based international human rights organization.

May 21, 1998 - ACLU Sues El Paso County Sheriff Over Jail’s Use of Restraint Board
The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado (ACLU) filed a class action lawsuit today in federal court to challenge an ongoing policy and practice of strapping prisoners to a device known as a "restraint board" at the El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs.
