2002 Annual Meeting Largest Ever!

The 2002 Annual Membership Meeting of the ACLU of Colorado was held February 21 with National ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero featured as the keynote speaker. Attendance was the largest in memory - well over 100 members! Held at the St. Francis Center on the Auraria Campus in Denver, the meeting was a festive occasion, officially kicking off our 50th anniversary celebrations. Food and libations were expertly prepared and presented. With the expert and talented assistance and dedication of the Education Committee, the evening was an enormous success.

Mr. Romero's informative and stirring presentation focused on the erosion of liberties since September 11th. He noted, particularly, the erosion of our nation's valued system of checks and balances, calling for an accounting of detained immigrants since 9/11, for rescinding monitoring of attorney/client conversations, and for citizens to continue questioning government. Mr. Romero took several questions from the audience and was warmly received by our membership. The 2002 Civil Rights in Action Award was presented by Mr. Romero to Max Holleran, a sixteen year old high school junior.

Thank you to all who attended and helped make our evening the tremendous success it was!
