2002 Carle Whitehead Memorial Award Dinner and 50th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, October 26th, 2002

This year's Carle Whitehead Memorial Award Dinner revolves around our 50th Anniversary Celebration. Because 50th anniversaries come only once a century, ACLU is departing from its usual Whitehead Dinner Award format with the theme "Five Decades of Defending Civil Liberties". In lieu of a single Whitehead Awardee this year, ACLU will be honoring the many people who have been a part of the last 50 years of success. Six different categories will pay tribute to these integral components of ACLU of Colorado.

Accepting awards for the many groups who have been instrumental to the success of our 50 years are William Reynard, Esq., on behalf of our farsighted Founders; John Doughty on behalf of our many hardworking Volunteers; the law firm of Holland & Hart on behalf of our accomplished Cooperating Attorneys; long-time member and supporter Charles Butcher on behalf of our Members and Financial Supporters; former ACLU of Colorado Executive Director Jim Joy on behalf of dedicated staff; and, our raison d'être, our Client - the Bill of Rights. An all-star Host Committee has agreed to assist us in ticket and table sales this year and Lannie Garrett (http://lannie.com/) will be our entertainment!

ACLU Board member and attorney Lino Lipinsky de Orlov will be our Master of Ceremonies this year. Although we acknowledge the seriousness of the state of our civil liberties with the impacts of the "war on terrorism", we also cannot let the occasion of our 50th anniversary go unrecognized! We approach our evening with light-hearted seriousness and hope you'll join us in support of our next 50 years of defending civil liberties! In addition to the dinner, the Fabulous Whitehead Silent Auction will also be held. See the following article for details on the Auction.

The Carle Whitehead Dinner and Silent Auction will be held at the Westin Tabor Center, 1672 Lawrence St., Denver, on Saturday evening, October 26th. The Reception and Auction begin at 6:00 p.m. and the Dinner and Program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Cocktail attire is the dress of the evening. Tickets are $200 per person and we ask that you RSVP by October 18th. John Aden will be happy to accept your reservation and payment (by VISA, MasterCard or American Express ) when you call (303) 777-5482 or email to jaden@aclu-co.org.
