2001 Fundraising Report

From Development Director Joe Mauro

Thank you to our many generous benefactors! ACLU of Colorado is pleased to inform you that, despite the economic downtown beginning in March, 2001 and the financial aftershocks of the horrendous attacks of September 11th, 2001, your donations and support of all kinds have allowed us to finish our fiscal year on December 31 in the black. Between heroic fundraising efforts by our Development Committee volunteers, Board members, and staff and a close eye on our expenses at our offices, ACLU raised more than in any single preceding year and spent less than budgeted, missing our fundraising goal by a mere $503!

In addition to the many gifts we received from you - our donors - we also are proud to report that ACLU of Colorado gained new support this past year from The Denver Foundation, through the Irene G. Rothgerber Trust, for $10,000 for general operating support and from the Rose Community Foundation for $10,000 for general operating support. The Gill Foundation provided renewed support of $15,000 for general operating expenses and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado renewed its support of educational activities in El Paso/Colorado Springs with a grant for $5,000.

Your response to our requests for financial support of ACLU of Colorado and our national ACLU have been heartening. We work very hard to be responsible stewards of your donations and appreciate your continued support of our many programs, litigation, and legislative activities.

We will call on you again this year several times to lend your assistance in any way possible to our critical work in defense of civil liberties both here in Colorado and on the national fronts. Please respond as generously as you can! And please know that your eleemosynary gifts are put to work immediately supporting our mission to protect and extend the constitutionally guaranteed rights of all Coloradans through litigation, education, and advocacy.

Memorials

Ms. Margaret J. Modlin, August 2001, who provided for ACLU of Colorado in her estate.
Mr. Donald Warner Koch, January 2001, who provided for ACLU of Colorado in his estate.
We extend our profound gratitude, posthumously, to these advocates for freedom.
