ACLU Privacy Policy To our members and benefactors: We use direct mail to inform people, in detail, of the importance of our legal work, the benefits and provisions of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and to solicit funds that enable us to continue our litigation, advocacy, public education and legislative lobbying. On occasion, as a part of our membership recruitment, ACLU will mail its membership invitations to the donor and member lists of like-minded organizations. Such other groups and publications may, in turn, be given permission to mail to our lists. The ACLU of Colorado and our national ACLU restrict permission to mail to our lists only to nonpartisan groups and to those whose programs are compatible with our ACLU mission. The granting of permission to outside groups to mail to our lists is governed by strict privacy procedures, as recommended by the U.S. Privacy Study Commission. Any mailings to our list by outside organizations are addressed and mailed from an independent mailhouse. The other groups never possess or see our lists. They see only the names of those who choose to respond to their appeals. If you allow us to share your name, it does not go into the hands of another group - never into any other databases or lists. Although our direct mail appeals and our careful sharing of mailing lists with other groups is vital to our new member and donor acquisition programs, we certainly understand that some members do not want their names shared. We are happy to honor those requests. If you desire NOT to receive mail from other organizations, please check the appropriate box on the Donation Reply form or write to us indicating your wishes: Director of Development, ACLU, 400 Corona, Denver 80218.
