The ACLU of Colorado moved to intervene on behalf of Common Cause and individual Colorado voters in a federal lawsuit over the federal government’s demand that Colorado turn over its entire voter registration rolls, including voters’ sensitive personal data.

The ACLU of Colorado and the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project joined a lawsuit challenging Colorado Springs’ unusual election timing, which violates many of its minority citizens’ rights.

Voters challenged the election map adopted by the Weld County Board of County Commissioners arguing that it must comply with the Colorado state redistricting statutes.

For many years, a Colorado statute has provided that persons on parole—approximately 6000 in Colorado—are forbidden to vote or to register to vote. C.R.S. § 1-2-103(4). This class action, filed in 2005 on behalf of approximately 6000 Colorado parolees, asserts that this statute violates the Colorado Constitution.
