Summary of Position
The Philanthropy Coordinator advances ACLU of Colorado’s strategic priorities by effectively ensuring the smooth administration of the organization’s development operations to raise funds for the organization. This position works with our legal, public policy, communications, administrative and advocacy departments, and reports directly to the Director of Philanthropy. We are accepting entry-level applications for those who are eager to learn in a strategic and ever-evolving environment. It requires the ability to multitask effectively and complete tasks individually as well as in a team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Enter and maintain records in the donor and membership database, including entry of gifts, contact information, and research information.
- Generate timely and professional acknowledgments and donor correspondence.
- Respond to donor requests for updates to contact information and communication preferences.
- Create weekly fundraising reports, various text/email/mail list reports, and other reports.
- With the Deputy Director and Staff Accountant, process checks, report gifts for deposit; charge and process credit card memberships and donations; reconcile all receipts with the accounting system on a monthly basis; and complete annual reconciliation process with the ACLU’s national office.
- Maintain and organize electronic and hard copy Philanthropy files including donor acknowledgement letters, notes from and to donors, and any MOUs and grant award correspondence. Act as the representative of the ACLU of Colorado with Community Shares, Colorado Gives, and other workplace giving programs including Benevity and others.
- Complete the recertification process for Community Shares and annual profile update for Colorado Gives Foundation, Benevity, and other online giving platforms.
- Initiate Colorado Gives Day (third quarter) giving campaign by leading interdepartmental meetings, creating a schedule, and executing the campaign.
- Manage, enter, and acknowledge all Colorado Gives contributions.
- Facilitate internal Colorado Gives Day campaign among staff.
- Proofread/edit and draft major donor proposals, development newsletter articles, and other written Philanthropy materials as necessary.
- Assist with the production of development materials and special projects in partnership with the communications team.
- Prepare and send out donor mailings, including the coordination of materials and volunteers for annual appeal mailing.
- Track and order office supplies used in the Philanthropy Department, including envelopes and notecards, and work with various vendors on printing of supplies and mailings.
- Monitor and actively track the Philanthropy voicemail and email inbox; Direct donor requests to appropriate team members and respond in a timely manner.
- Actively listen and participate in Philanthropy Department meetings, All Staff meetings, and across department meetings.
- Be available for evening and weekend event support on occasion and manage other event duties as assigned.
- Maintain and convey an understanding of the ACLU’s structure, programs and work.
- Maintain a positive and encouraging environment for donors, co-workers, stakeholders, and volunteers.

Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Dedicated to carrying out the mission and goals of the American Civil Liberties Union in protecting and furthering civil rights and civil liberties.
- Willingness to apply the work of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging (EDIB) and apply it to the Philanthropy Department.
- Strong interest in philanthropy, fundraising, and donor centric fundraising.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel.
- Experience using databases, email software, and project management tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
- Ability to solve problems, ability to meet tight deadlines and manage resources effectively.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a busy office environment.
- A creative, flexible, detail-oriented self-starter.

Essential Job Functions

- Ability to remain focused at workstation for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in office at least two days a week.
- Some walking, standing, and light lifting required at ACLU-CO events.
- Communicate with others effectively in verbal and written formats.

- Answer and make phone calls/text messages.
- Have a reliable form of transportation to commute to and from the office in downtown Denver.
- Ability to travel between locations across the state of Colorado.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time non-exempt position. The compensation range for this position is $50,000-$65,000. ACLU of Colorado offers comprehensive benefits including medical and dental insurance, life and long-term disability insurance, 401(k) contribution, paid vacation, and holidays.
