ACLU of Colorado mourns the loss of Colorado Senator Faith Winter who was killed in a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 on Wednesday, November 26. Sen. Winter was a fierce advocate for protecting and advancing civil rights and liberties in Colorado. The ACLU of Colorado worked with Sen. Winter on many civil rights-focused pieces of legislation including bills that ensured people across the state had access to resources and protections that would support a path to housing stability, that protected LGBTQ+ rights, that protected workers’ rights, and that protected students’ rights, supported their education, and aimed to prevent youth incarceration.
"Senator Faith Winter provided mentorship and leadership for future generations of Coloradans who have the passion to serve,” said Suzie Post, ACLU of Colorado philanthropy director. “Her loss is devastating and will be felt deeply indefinitely. The legacy she built is one that prioritizes compassion and hope. Her values and hard work will continue to inspire how we move forward as a community.”
“Senator Faith Winter was a tireless champion for the people of Colorado. Her commitment to public service, her warmth and compassion, and her unwavering advocacy made our state stronger,” said Anaya Robinson, ACLU of Colorado public policy director. “Her legacy will continue to inspire all who believe in a better, more just Colorado. Some of us lost a colleague, a friend, and our state lost a fierce advocate, but the change she championed will persist.”
The ACLU of Colorado extends its condolences to Sen. Winter’s two children, fiancé, colleagues, family, and friends.
