The ACLU of Colorado is investigating the implications of severe and pervasive misconduct by a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) senior DNA analyst, Yvonne “Missy” Woods, as well as CBI’s response to Ms. Woods’ misconduct.

We filed another amicus brief urging the Colorado Supreme Court to conclude that Colorado’s longstanding equal protection guarantee is violated when two laws punish identical conduct in dramatically different ways.

We participated as amicus in a case requesting the Colorado Supreme Court to provide clear guidance related to the judicially created “cure” doctrine that permits a state or local public body to ‘cure’ a prior violation of the Colorado Open Meetings Law by holding a subsequent complying meeting.

We signed onto an amicus brief with the Office of Respondent Parents’ Counsel, Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, and Disability Law Colorado urging the Colorado Supreme Court to hold that a parent does not waive her right to a jury trial by not appearing in court when her lawyer is present.

We argue that the First Amendment does not allow Masterpiece Cakeshop to refuse selling a cake to a transgender woman who is celebrating her identity.

We filed an amicus brief calling for an end to mandatory life without parole sentences for people convicted of felony murder.

The ACLU of Colorado filed an amicus brief along with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers calling for the Colorado Supreme Court to recognize that a person held at a police station for two hours, restrained with bags over her hands, interrogated, and not permitted to leave, is in police custody, and thus must be read a Miranda advisement, no matter how police characterize the situation.

The ACLU-CO sued the City of Pueblo to stop enforcement of a harmful new law prohibiting the operation of syringe exchange programs (SEPs) within city limits.

This case concerns the Colorado Springs Police Department’s use of unconstitutional warrants to comb through activists’ digital data in retaliation for their political speech and association.
