When the organizer for the City of Arvada’s Fall Harvest parade denied the parade application of Colorado Citizens for Peace, a local Arvada group, the leader of the group contacted the ACLU of Colorado. Although parade organizers claimed that the denial of the application had nothing to do with the content of the speech at issue, they had approved the applications of a number of civic, political and nonprofit groups. After letters from the ACLU of Colorado to the parade organizers and the Arvada City Attorney raising the First Amendment rights of Colorado Citizens for Peace, the parade organizer agreed to let the group march in the parade.
