The increasing integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) into everyday life has prompted many states, including Colorado, to take proactive measures to regulate personal data collection, biometric identifiers, algorithmic decision making, and strengthen consumer safety across various forms of tech.

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, ACLU of Colorado filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request demanding information on policies, both formal and informal, that forbid legal observers from taking notes or photographs of court docket details.

The first half of 2025 has been full of challenges and hard work for the ACLU of Colorado. We worked tirelessly alongside partners and community members to fight back against the dismantling of civil liberties at all levels of the government.

Though the passage of the Colorado Voting Rights Act will not resolve all our challenges, they provide our communities with essential tools to make our already-great elections even more accessible.
