For many years, a Colorado statute has provided that persons on parole—approximately 6000 in Colorado—are forbidden to vote or to register to vote. C.R.S. § 1-2-103(4). This class action, filed in 2005 on behalf of approximately 6000 Colorado parolees, asserts that this statute violates the Colorado Constitution.

In this case, the ACLU challenges a federal regulation that imposes indefinite, potentially life-long detention on certain immigrants who are subject to final orders of removal (deportation) but cannot be sent back to their home counties.

This lawsuit, filed under the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act on behalf of Stephen and Vickie Nash and the ACLU, seeks disclosure of documents connected with the Denver Police Department’s internal investigations of the Denver Spy Files controversy.
