Summary of Position

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the part-time Communications Associate advances the ACLU of Colorado’s strategic priorities through assisting in the execution of communications strategies built for the integrated work of the ACLU of Colorado’s administration, advocacy, communications, legal, philanthropy, and policy departments and, on occasion, collaborative work with ACLU National.

The ACLU of Colorado is a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment and requires the ability to multitask effectively and complete tasks individually as well as in a team.

Primary Responsibilities

Communications and Digital Media

  • Write, design, and edit content to be externally and internally distributed to/by the ACLU of Colorado’s communications, advocacy, and public policy departments or the organization’s volunteers and board members. These include but are not limited to:
    • - Calls to action
    • - Press releases
    • - News statements
    • - Internal memos
    • - One-page fact sheets
    • - Newsletters
    • - Reports
  • Write, design, and edit digital media assets for the ACLU of Colorado’s website, social media channels, and related web-based platforms. These include but are not limited to:
    • - Social media graphics
    • - Email and website banners
  • Support communications team members in producing video and audio content including but not limited to:
    • - Short-form videos
    • - Long-form videos
    • - Podcasts
  • Utilize internal communications tools and technologies including content calendar, contact management, ticketing system, media monitoring tools and databases.
  • Work across ACLU of Colorado departments and campaigns to execute tactics for mobilization of members and advocacy programs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of writing, storytelling, and copy-editing experience.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in digital communications.
  • Minimum two years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Audition, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, Asana, social media management tools, and other web-based platforms.
  • At least one year of experience in video pre- and post-production.
  • At least one year of experience in audio recording, engineering, editing, and mixing.
  • Strong eye for visual design, layout, typography, and brand consistency.
  • Makes decisions within already established processes of the communications team.
  • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within diverse teams.
  • Must have a well-articulated commitment to civil liberties and the mission of the ACLU.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Use Microsoft Teams phone, messaging, and video meeting functions.
  • Have a reliable form of transportation to commute to and from the office in downtown Denver.
  • Ability to travel between locations across the state of Colorado.

Compensation And Benefits

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The hourly rate for this position is $36.06 for 20 hours a week, and within pay scale parameters of the ACLU of Colorado.
