ACLU of Colorado condemns GEO Employee Shooting of Protester at Aurora GEO Detention Center

On the evening of Thursday, July 16, a woman was shot in the leg by an employee of the GEO Group, Inc. outside of the ICE detention facility in Aurora, Colorado. According to news reports, the GEO Group employee was later arrested. The ACLU of Colorado issued a statement condemning the shooting.

Increased Incarceration; Insufficient Oversight

Since the Trump administration took office in January 2025, the fight to protect immigrants' rights in Colorado, and across the United States, has alarmingly escalated. Our affiliate in Colorado, alongside the American Civil Liberties Union's national organization and its dozens of other affiliates, have been hard work in community and in the courts challenging the inhumane, and unlawful actions of the federal government against our immigrant neighbors.
