Camp v. City of Westminster (Amicus)

The ACLU of Colorado filed an amicus brief urging the Colorado Supreme Court to conclude that Colorado state protections preempt municipal sentencing schemes that punish identical conduct more harshly and such schemes violate Colorado’s longstanding equal protection guarantee. On December 22, 2025, the Court held that municipalities may not authorize harsher sentences than state law allows for an identical offense.

We participated as amicus in a case requesting the Colorado Supreme Court to provide clear guidance related to the judicially created “cure” doctrine that permits a state or local public body to ‘cure’ a prior violation of the Colorado Open Meetings Law by holding a subsequent complying meeting.

SeeWalker v. Vail

Danielle SeeWalker was selected as Vail’s summer 2024 Artist in Residence. But after she expressed her views on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Vail cancelled her residency. We sued Vail on behalf of Ms. SeeWalker for the town's unconstitutional viewpoint-based discrimination and retaliation.

Griffith v. El Paso County, et al. (Amicus)

The ACLU of Colorado filed an Amicus Brief in support of Ms. Griffith, a transgender woman's, equal protection challenge to her pretrial confinement in the El Paso County jail, where she was assigned to the male housing unit and denied access to women’s commissary items.
